Mortimer’s Lab would best fit an aggressive, go-wide deck that attacks several times per turn—especially Ninja, Assassin, or other decks that can reliably land the first hit—because its value comes from repeatedly triggering disruptive tokens: Bloodrot Pox pressures life, Exertion interferes with the opponent’s next turn, and Inertia attacks their arsenal and resources; however, it is inconsistent because the opponent controls the top card’s color and the Lab does nothing when you fail to hit, so defensive, combo, or highly resource-focused decks generally should not play it. In most competitive builds, more reliable cards such as Codex of Frailty in Assassin, Codex of Inertia where available, or direct attack-reaction and disruption cards will usually be better because they provide guaranteed value rather than depending on both a successful hit and the opponent revealing the desired color.
