**Lamentation** would fit best in a black-based midrange or control deck—especially in Commander—where repeatable creature removal stapled to a body provides value, and the **Encore** ability can generate massive swing turns in multiplayer by repeatedly destroying opposing creatures while gaining life; it’s particularly strong in graveyard-focused shells (e.g., Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Chainer, or any reanimator/aristocrats build) that can recur or fill the graveyard easily. However, at **6 mana** upfront (5B), it’s relatively slow compared to stronger staples like **Ravenous Chupacabra** (cheaper ETB removal), **Shriekmaw** (flexible evoke cost), **Noxious Gearhulk** (lifegain plus bigger body), or **Massacre Wurm** (board-impacting finisher), which are generally more efficient unless you specifically want the Encore synergy for multiplayer blowouts.
