Appalling Bearers is best in a Necromancer deck—especially Gravy Bones builds—that runs a high density of Zombies and is willing to trade an expendable Zombie from hand for efficient protection against a large attack, arcane damage, or damage-trigger effects; it is particularly useful in defensive, midrange, or fatigue-oriented matchups rather than all-in aggressive lists that need every Zombie for offense. It is not strictly outclassed, but **Ironrot Gauntlet** is better in decks that cannot reliably discard Zombies because it provides unconditional defense without costing a card, while Appalling Bearers has the higher defensive ceiling when its condition is live by preventing 2 damage. It should see play primarily as a matchup-dependent equipment option or sideboard piece in Zombie-heavy Necromancer decks, not as an automatic arms-slot inclusion in every build.
