Mistborn Protector (3) fits best in decks that frequently **create tokens or other cards during the opponent’s turn**, such as heroes that generate Ash, Gold, Silver, Auras, or other token permanents at instant speed, because it can defend for 4 instead of 3 when its condition is met; however, as a 3-cost defense reaction, it competes with generally stronger red defense reactions like **Sink Below (red)** or **Fate Foreseen (red)**, which cost 0 and defend for 4 with useful filtering or deck manipulation, making them far more resource‑efficient in most builds. Unless your deck reliably creates cards on the opponent’s turn and specifically wants extra 3-cost blues for resource density, Mistborn Protector (3) is usually outclassed and would not commonly see competitive play compared to cheaper, more flexible defense reactions.
