Appalling Bearers is best in a zombie-heavy Necromancer deck that can reliably spare a zombie card from hand or arsenal, particularly a defensive or midrange build that wants to survive an important opposing turn while converting an otherwise low-value card into 2 damage prevention. It is much less appealing in lean aggressive lists, where discarding a zombie can cost too much tempo or reduce the number of threats available for a following turn. Compared with generic arm equipment, Ironrot Gauntlet is usually better for consistent value because it provides a guaranteed armor block without requiring a discard, while Appalling Bearers is stronger specifically when preventing 2 damage is pivotal—such as stopping breakpoints, protecting life against dominate, or surviving an explosive turn.
