Chromatic Refinement is best suited to aggressive, yellow-dense decks that can reliably trigger its cost reduction and value the +1 damage breakpoint—such as Fai, Katsu, Dash (especially Boost builds), or Prism builds running many yellow Heralds—because they can plan a strong follow‑up turn where a discounted yellow both gains tempo and pushes over key breakpoints. However, the card is generally considered too slow and low‑impact for competitive play since it does nothing the turn you play it and only affects one card on the following turn; most aggressive decks would rather use more immediate and flexible power cards like Art of War (for explosive turns), Enlightened Strike (for raw rate and versatility), or even class‑specific payoffs that generate stronger tempo swings. As a result, Chromatic Refinement is usually a niche or budget inclusion rather than a staple, and it rarely sees play in optimized competitive lists.
