About Chromatic Refinement (1)

Chromatic Refinement (1), , designed by None first released in May, 2026 in the set Omens of the Third Age.

**Chromatic Refinement** is best suited for combo-oriented Wizard decks (notably Kano, and sometimes Iyslander in slower formats) that want to set up a powerful red spell on a future turn—ideally something like *Blazing Aether* or another high-impact red attack/action where both the cost reduction and +1 damage meaningfully scale. Because it destroys itself at the beginning of your action phase, it functions as a delayed setup piece, so it fits decks that can afford a tempo loss to prepare a big swing turn. However, it is generally considered niche and often weaker than alternatives like **Energy Potion** (which provides more flexible resource storage), **Spellfire Cloak**, or direct damage enhancers that don’t require advance setup. In most competitive builds, the card is a bit too slow and low impact unless the deck specifically benefits from stacking small damage boosts for a lethal combo turn, so it rarely sees play outside of dedicated Wizard combo strategies.
