Countdown to Extinction would mainly benefit a Shadow Brute—especially Levia—deck that can exploit Blood Debt and wants reliable access to Darkest Hour, since creating a Gate to i’Arathael on attack and tutoring Darkest Hour when it hits gives the card both setup and late-game value; however, its effectiveness depends heavily on Darkest Hour being a meaningful combo or payoff card, and as a three-cost attack with no immediate power boost, dominate, or strong on-hit effect, it is usually weaker than premium alternatives such as `Command and Conquer` for disruption, `Boneyard Marauder` for efficient Shadow-Brute recursion, or `Dreadbore` for a stronger Blood Debt-focused attack.
